Weekend Recap

Good morning everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend, I know we did. We had lots of things going on from a friend's birthday party to spending the day walking/ driving around Pacific Beach. Lots of fun!

Friday night's dinner: Stuffed portobello mushrooms and roasted red potatoes. I wasn't a fun of the mushrooms but Mark loved them.

On Saturday, our friend's hubby threw her a surprise birthday party at the beach. It was a beautiful day and a great time with friends.

She's the cutest- look at that tiny surfboard!

B+ Goals for July

Hi everyone! I thought I would do things a little differently for this Friday post. I read these B+ July Goals posts on Sarah and Elizabeth's blogs and I LOVE the idea that getting things done is better than perfect goals, especially during the summer time. These are all works-in-progress. This month is going to be super busy so maybe if I write it all down it will help me get it done lol. Let's go!

Organize/ Pack.

Ugh, who likes packing?? It's awful. You spend all of this time organizing your things into labeled boxes only for them to be moved somewhere, unpacked, and attempt to re-organize them. Nothing is ever where you think it will be and it takes way longer to unpack. Wow, I'm sounding like a whiny child lol. We are the midst of packing up our apartment to move next week. Who knew you could shove so much stuff into such a small place??? I've been going through things in our house for the last few weeks and I'm hoping that helps with the packing craziness. We have about ten boxes packed right now... only 100+ more to go :(

Blog more.

It's summer time so you'd think I'd have SO much free time but I've actually been quite busy. From being out of town, to having visitors it's been busy busy busy. I have trying to post at least 3x a week but I think I'm in quite the blogging slump. I feel like I have nothing to say. Well let's face it, I always have something to say, but not always things that I think people want to read lol. I'm really going to make an effort to produce better content but it might be on hold until after our move. Some content is better than no content right??

Read.

Sometimes I find that I am not very good at relaxing. I give myself tasks and to-do's to accomplish every day. I actually have to remind myself that this is summer and it's okay to kick back and read a book. So I'm going to use my breaks from packing and organizing to read. I'm only 20 books into my 50 book quest for 2016. I need to get moving!

Be present.

This correlates with the goal above. I want to enjoy summer and not just blink and it's over. I'm trying to soak up beach days, spend more time outside, read read read, and do things in SD that I've never done before. The weather has been amazing this year and I really just want to enjoy where we are in our lives. I tend to make lists and spend my day checking off all the things I need to do. I want to focus on being more present and less focused on tasks. We will see how that goes :)

Cook healthier.

I go through phases where I cook super clean and healthy and then I go back to only wanting to use my Pioneer Woman cookbooks. Don't get me wrong, I love Ree and her amazing recipes but I'll be a blimp if I eat like that everyday lol. I need to focus on lighter healthier meals.

Drink more water.

I am SO much better at drinking water when I am at school. It's counter-intuitive because when I'm at home I can use the restroom whenever so I should be drinking water like it's going out of style. When I'm at school I have to limit water intake to the times when I can take a break and use the restroom. I think I honestly just forget to drink water when I'm home. This needs to get better!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Summer Makeup Routine

In the summer, I keep my makeup pretty minimal. I used to be a foundation every. single. day kind of girl but thanks to Rodan+ Fields I can keep it lighter. I still wear makeup because I think it's fun but I don't feel like I HAVE to wear it all day, everyday. It's a freeing feeling, that's for sure!

I use the R+F mineral peptides powder as my full face powder and to replace foundation. It has peptides in it so it's doing awesome things for your skin where anti-aging is concerned. It also contains SPF, so I'm getting extra sun protection, other than just my moisturizer. I love that it's a build-able coverage but never looks heavy or settles into my fine lines. I never really liked mineral powders in the past because of those reasons, but thank goodness this one is in a league of it's own.

Next, I use the bronzer on my cheeks, forehead, hair line, and a little under my jaw line. Since, I keep my face out of the sun and always have sunscreen on, my face tends to be much lighter than my body. The bronzer helps to give me a warm glow without looking overboard. I love the Hourglass bronzer and I have the Ambient Light Edit palette, which is great because it also has blushes and finishing powders. I think this was a Christmas-time exclusive but you can still buy the bronzer on it's own. It has a great glow to it without chunky glitter. LOVE it.

I love the MAC blushes, especially the Pro Longwear formula. They last forever and don't fade throughout the day. My current favorite is the shade Melba. It's a soft peachy bronze color that looks super natural. Blush and mascara are my two favorite makeup items... must-have :)

I use the Nars Smudge-Proof eye shadow primer for my oily eyelids. This helps cut down on the oil and helps my eye shadow last all day without creasing. I've tried a bunch and this is my fave for sure.

Eyeshadow is a super fun way to change up your makeup but like I said, in the summer I stay minimal. One of my go-to glory shades is the MAC Paint Pot in Rubenesque. I'm almost positive I've talked about this before but it's still one of my favorites. It looks super orange in the picture but it's not at all. It's a peachy pink with gold mixed in. It changes color in different light and looks beautiful day or night. Plus it's in a paint pot which means its easy-peasy to apply... no brush required. Sometimes I'll take the bronzer on a blending brush and put that in my crease for more dimension too.

The Lancome Grandiose mascara is still a love of mine. I've tried a ton of mascaras and this one stays all day, makes my lashes look long and full, without clumping (too) much. It's a little pricey but it lasts a long time and is worth every penny.

I wear the R+F lip shield during most days but if I want a little color I use the Bare Minerals Marvelous Moxie lipgloss in Show Off. It's a peachy pink color that looks really natural and goes with any outfit. My perfect shade!

Fourth of July Weekend Recap

Hi everyone! I'm sorry this is going up so late... I'm still recovering from this busy busy weekend.  My parents were in town this weekend and we had a great time! We spent Independence Day in Coronado and WOW it was such a fun day. The weather was perfect and the island was the perfect patriotic place to be. Here is a little picture recap of the entire weekend...

beach day on Saturday

Kaiserhof with my parents

This was the biggest pretzel I've ever seen. This picture doesn't do it justice.

If you live in San Diego you need to check out Kaiserhof in OB, seriously yummy German food!

Brunch on Sunday at Ocean View at Ballast Point

Bike ride selfie- living on the wild side lol

Hi mom! We rented bikes for the day and had a great time riding around the island.

Coronado- you're beautiful!

Beautiful fireworks
Now it's time to buckle down and get ready to move. We packed a bunch of boxes today but have a LONG way to go before this place is ready for us to move. Wish us luck! :)

Five on Friday

Hi everyone! Happy Friday and Happy Independence Day weekend. My parents come in town today and will be here through the weekend. Should be fun!

Well another week of summer has flown by and it makes me so sad. Why won't it slow down???? I'm trying to soak it all up and enjoy every moment. We've definitely gone to the beach WAY more this year than last, which is a plus! I've also been reading a ton. Woot woot! Anyways let's jump in!

One- 4 Year Anniversary

We celebrated our four year anniversary on Wednesday. Mark got home on Tuesday night so he made it just in time :) We started the day with breakfast in Coronado at Claytons, then went golfing. I like to golf every now and then but it always kills my back. I must be doing something wrong but I can't figure it out lol. Golf was my idea, btw :)

Lobster risotto :) mmm

Then we went to Bo Beaus for dinner. Oh man the food was delicious!! We worked our way down the menu and had them box up the leftovers after each course. It was so fun to try a bunch of different things. Afterwards we went to Tom Ham's Lighthouse for dessert and the view. So pretty!

I posted about our two weddings earlier this week if you want to check it out.

Two- Hydro Flask

Mark bought me a Hydro Flask the other day and holy moly I LOVE it. How have I lived without this thing? That's dramatic, I know but it keeps my water SO cold. I am super picky about my beverages. Hot drinks need to be hot and cold drinks need to be cold. Luke warm is gross lol. I literally heat my coffee up 3 or 4 times each morning. It's a problem.  Mark always finishes my lukewarm drinks... he's the best.  Anyways, I put water and a few ice cubes in the Hydro Flask before I went to bed and when I woke up there was still ice in there. Crazy right? Anyways, you should get one.

Three- New Pillows

Okay please excuse the wrinkly comforter and the off-center pillows haha. I had just taken it out of the drier and since the drier is super small for a giant comforter, it made it really wrinkly. I pretty much iron everything but I didn't have the energy to iron it lol. Also, Bentley decided he wanted to fight Oliver on the bed... those are my dogs in case you are wondering lol. Needless to say, not my best pictures. I LOVE the pillows though. Throw pillows sometimes annoy me because they get in the way but they make the bed look so much prettier!

Four- Beach Days/ New book

I'm wearing a shirt since I burnt my neck/ back while golfing :(

I met Mark at the beach on his base yesterday. The sun finally came out and it was nice to just relax in the sand. I'm reading a new book, The Weekenders by Mary Kay Andrews. So far it's really good! I'll let you know my final verdict when I'm done.

Five- Too Faced Concealer

buy it here

I'm on the hunt for a new concealer. I like the NYX one but I feel like it's not the right shade for me any more. I tried a shade darker and it looked weird. I've heard the Too Faced concealer is REALLY good so I might go pick that up today. Although, my dark circles are sooo much better so I barely have to use it any more. Woohoo, thanks R+F! I'm also out of eyeshadow primer. Anyone have any recommendations?? I normally use the Nars primer and love it but I'm down to try something new.

I hope you all have a safe holiday weekend!!
